Jun 2, 2008 - One of the best things of watching this movie is the flight footage of the B-36. Kind of like watching "War Of The Worlds" for the Flying Wing footage

Jun 10, 2008 - such an awesome plane

Jun 13, 2008 - I want to buy this movie!
Bullettube Says:
Jun 13, 2008 - This is the plane that vindicated Howard Hughes! It actually weighed more, but had the engines that Hughes couldn't obtain. Did you notice Jimmy Stewart? He flew B-17s in WW2 and later was a general in the Airforce Reserve and it's biggest spokesperson and supporter.

Jun 14, 2008 - Actually, he flew Liberators over Europe not Fortresses. He did train on the Fortress as well as train men to fly it.

Arcmate Says:
Jun 19, 2008 - The B36 was intended to attack Germany from US bases if Britain had fallen. It took a while to get round to developing it but worth the wait. As seen in this movie, they were prone to fuel leaks in the wing tanks maybe due to their HHUUGGE size!

Jun 20, 2008 - This movie is great! I wish I could have seen it on the big screen!
veteran7821 Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - Howard Hughes did have those engines. They're Pratt & Whittney R-4360 Radials. He put 8 of them on the H-4 Hercules (Spruce Goose)and it flew November 2, 1947. The B-36 had nothing to do with Howard Hughes. It was built by Convair (formerly Consolidated).
Bullettube Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - So why did H.Hughes testify at a congressional hearing, that he wasn't given the engines he wanted?
veteran7821 Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - I don't know about that hearing, but I do know specs on the H-4...AND IT DID HAVE 4360'S.
alnot01 Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - Sadly, no B-36 has flown since 1959, or will ever fly again.
alnot01 Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - Wings leaking fuel were a chronic problem, and fire hazard.
alnot01 Says:
Jun 25, 2008 - The B-36 pushed very hard the envelope of what was possible in the 1940s. The result was a very eccentric (pusher config, mixed jet-piston, enormous wings) design.

Jul 8, 2008 - One of my favorite movies. I remember well when those planes would fly over. Had an uncle who worked at Consolidated.
