Mar 31, 2008 - One can come up with several possible reasons: Independent outsider billionaire Ross Perot spend much of his fortune financing his own campaign. He pulled about 15% of the popular vote and is widely viewed as causing Bush to lose. Perhaps the "insiders" couldn't forsee and stop a determined billionaire who wanted change. Interestingly, Ross Perot DID claim that he and his family were being targeted for harrassment by Republican party brass. He briefly stopped his campaign because of this.
